In modern society, the advancement of industry and machinery pushed people
to rely on materials while they lost individuality. I think the role of art is to help
people to find identity and uniqueness of their own through the self meditation
and self understanding. I studies on flowers, the symbol of beauty, vitality and
tactile sense, one of the basic human senses, focusing on the restoration of
organic relationship between art and life further. Id like to open a path for communication between art and society, especially when art can only function as a medium in the society.
I intended to show the beauty and vitality of nature based on flower motifs
which is the most common element of textile design both in eastern and western culture. Flowers have become the most usual material in art beyond the time and space representing various symbols from figurative to abstract art.
I studied the expression of natural images combined with tactile sense, the very basic human sense. I researched on the landscape garden to analyze the natural images and textures in an effective and detailed way. Garden is a fenced space that divides in and out of a territory. And also garden is an expression of idealized space that men seek for.
My works, circular flower show the inner meaning and exterior of a garden, explaining human life circle, birth-growth-death, through the life cycle of flowers. Handmade textures, when they are combined with visual images, can stimulate tactile sense and can make up for the emotional factor of digital media art which is rather artificial and machinery driven.
